Ukraine Day #2

Day #2

Today we had a Family Church Picnic. We had many things to do in the morning to prepare for they guest coming. (Photo: Ukraine Student, Kyle P., Owen, and Will.)
We chopped lots of wood. (Photo:  JB, Max (Ukraine Student), and Will.)
Then we hauled all the wood to grills for food that afternoon.

Matt, Owen, and Will.

They have 2 horses, lots of chickens, goats and other animals. They use the animals for eggs and fresh meat, Not just for petting purposes.

I'm not sure how many of you have every heard of the Were-Bear, Were-Moose, or Were-Beavers. More commonly you know about the Were-Wolf. At the BI in Ukraine they raise Were-Rats to sell for their valuable fur. They have webbed feet, and giant red teeth.

Slowly people began to show up, and we began a good experience of being around/having tons of fun with people we can hardly communicate with.
While talking to some Ukrainians we found a snake in the pond. Kyle P. decided he wanted to catch it. However on this day he could not succeed, we decided to dedicate every morning to catching the snake.

It was a very beautiful day, many people showed up for the festivities. When all the churches arrived, we played games that could win you different prizes and an opportunity to get a key that could possibly open the treasure chest at the end of the day.

First game: One guy from each church had to hold a brick out in front of him in one hand as long as he could.

As some played games, others could food for us.

Game #2: The water balloon toss.

Game #3: Tug of War with a water tube of some sort.

Will, Tyler, Kyle, Owen, and Josiah joined in the game.

Then the Girls played.

Games #4: Spin around with head on bat, dive through the tube, put inner-tube around feet, zig zag back and forth between poles, blow up a balloon, sit on it to pop it, then run back to tag next person.

As we watched the games, we had a nice relaxing time, to adjust to the time zone difference. This was our first time to try out some Ukrainian foods/snacks.

Game #5: Pass the ball over and under.
Game #6: Eat whatever you pull out of the bag.

After the games was just social free time. Many guys sat around the pond fishing, while others played basketball or volleyball.

Kyle, Owen, and I went to play some carpet ball, it took forever before it was are turn to play. We realized they didn't have a line, it was by who could get to the position first, who got to play. Owen and I were to kind to push our way through, but Kyle didn't mind.

Lunch Break

A quick practice before we sang and did a skit for the meeting that afternoon.

We sang one song then gave a couple testimonies.

In the skit was Patricia, Will, Aaron, myself, Matt as Jesus and Whitney as the Masked girl. The skit was about a girl who puts on masks depending on the people she is around effects how she portrays herself. I was the abusive boyfriend.

After we got done singing and doing our skit we had to sit outside during Kris Stouts sermon. This is our view of the remaining service.

Then we all gathered for the final event, the drawing of the key. The person who draws the winning key to the treasure chest won a week of camp or something like that, I don't remember.

After the final event, we played some more carpet ball. They mocked the way we talked and laughed. A few of the kids spoke a little english, so we began to speak in big words that would be hard to understand by most human beings, but in a way that we knew what each other was talking about.
Owen got mutilated by the little children. There is just something fun about beating up a big clumsy alaskan, I know because we do it all the time.

Kylie had a good time talking to the girls, she could speak spanish with a couple of the children and staff there.

To finish out the day we played some futball (Soccer)

We split up the Americans amongst the Ukraine students, to help prevent total defeat on our part.

Mana took most of the photos of the game for me.

Some Volleyball that night.

After the game one of the missionaries from Kazuastan wanted to fellowship and talk about spiritual things. We went to the dinning hall, where he played us a song about a folk tale. After the song he began to ask Kyle and I about quiet time which was in Zechariah. Kyle and I got to use what we had learned in class this year to explain some of the visions to him, along with many other questions he had. We had to use a translator to talk to him and his wife. It was a great time of fellowship, and challenged me in many ways.
