Day #1
We left here on thursday morning, taking a bus to the JFK airport. (I can't remember the times exactly) We flew out at 3pm to Germany, were we had a 3 hour delay until we flew to Ukraine. The first flight was about 6-7 hours long.
While at the JFK airport we made a new friend with a bird. One of the employers told us that they have been trying to catch him for about 6 months, but he is to smart. After the 2 hour wait, we boarded our flight for Munich, Germany.
I am not sure what time we landed in Ukraine, but it was like 3am for my body.
When we arrived we split up into 3 or 4 different vehicles. It was very exciting to think we are in Ukraine. When they come upon traffic jams, the shoulder of the road becomes a 2nd lane.
And for some drivers the shoulder of the other side becomes a new road.
When we arrived at the Ukraine Bible Institute all the students and staff were standing outside waiting for us. With the language barrier, they greeted us with very welcoming hugs.
We lived with the students in their dorm rooms. They kindly gave up their bottom bunks, and cleared some drawer space for us to use. I was with Will and Owen in a room with 5 Ukraine BI students, 2 of them spoke a little english.
The campus use to be an old communist training camp. The fixed it up, and now it looks beautiful. They have a lot more work that needs to be done on the campus. What was once used for training Communist Soldiers is now used for spreading the gospel.
The Friday we arrived we relaxed and enjoyed the campus, exploring and getting to know the students.
It was very difficult at first trying to communicate with the students, but as time went on we grew closer and built some good friendships with other people that barely speak english, but because we have Christ in common we could come together.
Something that I noticed at the meals is whenever they pray they always stand in respect to God or almost any other time they pray.
