Wright Peak is the 16th highest peak in the High Peaks of the Adirondack Park, and is located in the MacIntyre Range in the town ofNorth Hudson, in Essex County, New York. Named for N.Y. Governor Silas Wright (1795–1847), Wright is the northern-most peak in the MacIntyre Range, and is known to have one of the windiest peaks in the park.
With an Elevation of 4,587 ft (1,398 meters) We began our adventure of up the mountain, in our snowshoes. The Expedition began at a earlier morning of 6:30 am, getting our equipment and breakfast to head to the Mountain.
In our crew was, Eric Messer (Guide), Caralee Grey (Nurse), Owen Walsh (Explorer), Brent Wittmer (Russian Spy), Kyle Paradise (Survival Specialist), Will Galison (Maine Tourist), Paul Mackey and Dale Nolan (Photographers), Andrew Nippert (Micro Biologist), Carrel and Friend.
This was my first time snowshoeing and climbing a High Peak. The temperature was cold but you were fine as long as you keep moving. Most of the tracks was easy at first but we got to a point of heavy incline for a while, using all your might thrusting yourself up the mountain with a ski pole in hand.
(Trying to take photos wasn't the easiest thing, trying to protect your camera from freezing and get lots of photos)
As we climbed the sun passed bye. We set up camp, for a few minutes to get some fuel back into our bodies. The stop made your body freeze back up, taking time to rewarm it, in your efforts to begin to continue walking up the path.
The nature was so beautiful, as it is not harmed to much by man, every snowflake resting on the trees untouched, as you walk through this winter wonderland, of trees leaning over the path creating a tree snow cave like experience.
After we hiked for about 7 1/2 miles, we reached the peak of the mountain.
At the top of the peak, was super windy and cold. The wind would almost knock us over at times, as we gazed on the view of God's creation before us.
This was an awesome experience, I can't wait to do it again.
We were all Very tired, and had a nice sleep on the way home.
This is the Algonquin Peak in the background (photo of Kyle Paradise), with an elevation of 5,115 ft.
(Paul Mackey and Will Gallison got an awsome experience of sharing the gospel with another hiker)
